Moscow. January 8. INTERFAX.RU – The number of children who died in Uzbekistan after taking a drug against SARS from an Indian company has increased to 20, the press service of the Ministry of Health of the Republic reported on Saturday.

“The health department of the Namangan region (Ferghana Valley) confirmed the death of a three-year-old child in the Uchkurgan district of the Namangan region,” the report says.

Earlier, at the end of December, the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan announced the death of 18 children after taking the drug from SARS “Doc-1 Max” from an Indian company. In the course of laboratory studies, a toxic substance, ethylene glycol, was found in the preparation. Later it became known about the death of another child in the Kashkadarya region (south of the country).

The State Security Service of Uzbekistan opened a criminal case. Representatives of the drug importing company and the National Center for Standardization of Medicines were detained under the article “violation of the procedure for the retail sale of prescription drugs containing potent substances.” The sanctions of this article provide for imprisonment for a period of 10 to 15 years.

The sale of all drugs of the Indian pharmaceutical company in Uzbekistan has been suspended.

According to media reports, in October the Gambian government announced the death of 70 children from acute kidney failure. The country’s authorities attributed these deaths to the children taking Indian cough syrups containing toxic compounds. Later, Indonesia also named the presence of ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol in some medicines as a possible cause of death of 141 children.
